Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The large audience will hear a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The focus of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Sisterly Duo
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
